Bee happy ... make a leather bag

Remember this?

I have now finished my pink leather bag :)

First I stitched up the lining with right sides facing each other.

When I had stitched around the 2 sides and bottom I then pinched the corners out and stitched across here so my bag has a base.

I wanted a clip inside my bag to hold keys so I used a piece of leather stitched in half and tucked it through the clip.

I made my leather outers the same as the lining by stitching right sides together and then stitching the bottom corners across.

I then turned the leather the right way around and sat the lining inside.

Next I turned the leather over on itself so it sat over the top edge of the lining.

As I stitched this around I tucked my leather key holder under the edge of the leather for the stitching to hold it in place.

I also made a tassel charm with left over leather and some hearts attached.

My finished bag.

As you can see the handles are just a piece of leather that I stitched in half.  Then I measured in 10cm from each side and stitched this in half again.

This will hopefully make the handles more comfy to hold.

I then put the handles on the inside of the bag and stitched in place measuring 5cm in from the side seams to make sure they were in the same place on both sides.

On the whole I am really pleased with how this turned out except in some places the leather slipped slightly when sewing, any suggestions as to how to stop this in future anyone?

  5. So pretty! I'm so awed by your creativity! i love the color and i love the bag sooo much! i dont know yet how to sew, but i hope someday i can make a bag like yours! do you use any particular type of stitching in the sewing maching or just a normal running stitch? i'm still confused sometimes on how to select the stitches on my machine and the tension thing hehe, as for the leather, do you use other type or heavier threads or normal sewing thread? but anyways, i love the result, Bee! and i love the lining and the cute tassel too!

  21. Wow lovely bag - where did you get the lovely leather? I have heard Bulldog clips are good for keeping leather together when sewing (in place of pins)

    1. I would say it has cost about £20 in materials and then about 2 hours in time to make it.
