Bee happy ..... vintage buys

I wanted to share my vintage buys with you from the open day held at Welbeck at the weekend.

Most buys were from Hope and Elvis' studio, loved it in here.

Vintage blue ribbon

Couple of pieces of pretty fabric

Packets of lace and fabric scraps

Cute vintage paisley scarf

Gorgeous vintage paisley eiderdown

Scraps of wool pieces

I was wondered what the best way to clean the eiderdown was, dry clean or use the washing machine on a wool/hand wash cycle, what do you recommend?

There is also a tear in the fabric, any suggestions from you wonderful people out there for a repair?

  1. My ban from shopping is always eased when I can have a good nosey at other peoples buys :) Beautiful choices, I love the square the most I think...or the fabrics x

  2. What a beautiful eidy! Mend the tear first, then wash on a gentle wash and tumble dry ... For a long time ... This is what I've always done, and was recommended this way by a lady who renovated old eiderdowns. The tumble drying will really plump it up. If any feathers escape, gather then in a carrier bag, find the hole and put back in, stitch in place. This may not be the way recommended on specialist sites, but it worked for me!

  4. I recently bought an eidy like yours and I took it to the launderette where they put it in a big washing machine and then in the big tumblers....all for £10 which I thought was very good. Lucey x

  7. I believe you must wash it in a launderette in case the whole thing disintigrates and murders the machine. If this happens, run away. And if it survives, tumble it dry so fluff it up. You cannot air dry feathers.

  8. The eidy is gorgeous! I have successfully washed them in my machine before but with no tumble drier it does mean I have to shake it every half an hour or so or the feathers clump together and start to smell like a dead bird!!!
